Soy CandlesHandmade soy candles:

• Start with soy wax flakes, and measure out the appropriate amount for the size and style of candle you’re making

• Melt your wax, in a double-boiler, wax melter or kitchen candle

• Once the wax is melted and the temperature is between 170 and 180 degrees, add the dye

• After the dye, add the fragrance (while the wax temperature is around 175 degrees), and stir with a whisk

• Reduce the heat of your wax to between 150 and 155 degrees, and pour the wax into your molds (make sure the molds are warm before you pour the wax in)

• Once a thick skin has formed across the top of your soy candles, insert a wick

• Let the candles harden for approximately four hours

Sounds Like Summer All Year Round

21 October;  Author: DecoratingWithStyle

metal wind chimesThere are many things I miss about summer, even though we’ve barely scratched the surface of the chilly months ahead. It’s not just the temperature change that gets to me – I like the seasonal signifiers that make summer such a special time of year. There’s the crisp, sour taste of fresh-squeezed lemonade, the small of bonfires on the beach and of course the lazy jangling of metal wind chimes.

In order to capture that summer spirit for my enjoyment year round, I set up some chimes inside my house. My kids and the guests who come to visit can’t resist giving the chimes a soft push, causing them to play an impromptu tune. Whenever I feel that the chilly weather and dreary winter skies are getting the best of me, I simply turn to the wind chime and think of the good times.
